March 21, 2020

Good day:

This past Thursday, the Foothills Caledonia Youth Pipe Band (FCYPB) announced the cancellation of the Ogden Legion Indoor Competition which was scheduled to be held on May 2, 2020. This has been the first event of the competitive pipe band and solo piping and drumming season each year for the past several years so it certainly is disappointing news. However, considering the seriousness of the COVID-19 outbreak, this decision by the FCYPB was the right decision to make and I and the other members of the Executive Committee support their decision.

The current situation will possibly impact other events that are usually scheduled over the course of the summer. No decisions on those events have been made yet but the organizers of those events and the ASPD will communicate any decisions as soon as they are made.

I would ask that over the next few days, weeks and months, reach out to your fellow pipers and drummers that you would normally see at the games during the summer. Talk to them on the phone, send them an email or talk over social media. The connections in our piping and drumming community are more important now than ever before. Also, make sure to take out the pipes and the drums and continue to play good music. This will help us weather this storm.

I wish you and your families all the best.

Cheers,

Sean Somers
